AI Policy

Frontiers in Biotechnology and Genetics (FBG) recognizes the increasing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in academic research, scientific communication, and publishing processes. The journal supports the responsible and transparent use of AI technologies while maintaining the principles of research integrity, originality, and accountability.

Use of AI Tools by Authors

Authors may use AI-assisted tools for limited purposes such as language improvement, grammar correction, formatting assistance, and improving the clarity of scientific writing. However, AI tools must not replace the authors’ intellectual contribution, scientific judgment, analysis, interpretation, or responsibility for the research findings.

Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, ethical standards, and integrity of their submitted manuscripts.

Disclosure of AI Use

Authors must disclose any significant use of AI tools during manuscript preparation. The disclosure should include:

: The name of the AI tool used
: The purpose for which the tool was used
: The sections or elements of the manuscript affected by AI assistance

This disclosure should be provided in the manuscript acknowledgements, methods section, or another appropriate statement.

AI as Author or Co-author

Artificial Intelligence tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors of manuscripts submitted to FBG. Authorship requires human responsibility, accountability, and the ability to approve and defend the published work.

Prohibited Use of AI

The following uses of AI tools are not permitted:

: Generating false research data, results, images, or scientific information
: Creating fabricated references or citations
: Submitting AI-generated content without proper verification and disclosure
: Using AI to manipulate research findings or misrepresent scientific evidence

Responsibility of Authors

Authors must carefully review and verify all AI-assisted content to ensure accuracy, originality, and compliance with ethical research standards. Any errors, plagiarism, misinformation, or misleading statements remain the responsibility of the authors.

Use of AI by Reviewers and Editors

Reviewers and editors must protect manuscript confidentiality. They should not upload unpublished manuscripts, research data, or confidential information into external AI systems without appropriate authorization.

AI tools may only be used in editorial processes when confidentiality, security, and ethical requirements are maintained.

Research Integrity and Ethical Compliance

FBG follows responsible publishing practices and encourages ethical AI use in accordance with international standards of scholarly publishing and research integrity. The journal reserves the right to request clarification from authors regarding AI usage and may take appropriate editorial action in cases of undisclosed or unethical AI use.
